This paper sets out the story of a research project that culminated in a thesis submitted to the University of Sheffield for the award of Doctor of Education (EdD). Its purpose is to examine the process of research over the almost three year period of the project and explore the methodological challenges that were confronted and that shaped the project as it evolved
