The Department of Spatial Information Sciences provides degree, postgraduate and short training courses in all areas of Geomatics.
The Department has particular expertise in the areas of Land, Mining and Engineering Surveying, Geographic Information Systems, Global Navigation Systems, Remote Sensing, Land Management and Environmental Management. Well equipped undergraduate teaching laboratories, equipment and software are used to teach in these subject areas
.The origin of the Department of Spatial Information Sciences at DIT goes back to 1967, with the commencement of Ireland's first and only four year programme in Geo-Surveying. Since that date, virtually all of Ireland's professional and technical graduates have studied and graduated from DIT.
