Spatial information (SI) describes the physical location of objects and the metric relationships between objects. The SI industry is a specialised component of the broader information technology sector and has scientific and technical links to many other disciplines. The Spatial information research Group (SInRG) provide a coherent structure for the promotion and development of research in the spatial information sciences and related areas.

The objectives of SInRG are: • To provide an over-arching structure for the management of research in the Department of Spatial Information Sciences; • To facilitate collaboration between researchers in the Department of Spatial Information Sciences in the development of new knowledge and new applications of spatial information; • To facilitate collaboration with other researchers and research bodies; • To establish the Technological University Dublin as a centre of excellence in spatial information research

The major research themes are Spatial data acquisition, applications and managment; Cloud data acquisition and processing; Geodetic Surveying and Geodesy; Land Management; Cultural Heritage; Education in the Spatial Sciences.
