Abstract
The book chapter reviews the recent developments of acrylamide-based holographic photopolymers at the Centre for Industrial and Engineering Optics (IEO) at Dublin Institute of Technology. Examples of their advanced applications are given.
The chapter also reports on the development of a group of novel environmentally friendly holographic photopolymers. The acrylamide is excluded from the composition of these photopolymers. By measuring holographic parameters, such as the diffraction efficiency (DE) and the refractive index modulation (RIM) of the novel photopolymers, it is shown that they have holographic recording features similar to that of the standard IEO acrylamide-based photopolymer.
A discovery of a highly pressure sensitive holographic photopolymer is reported for the first time. Different dopants can be used to modify the pressure sensitivity of this new material. The chemical composition of this material is not reported because a patent application is under consideration. The holograms recorded in this material change their colour under pressure and can be used as pressure sensors in variety of applications.
